There are certain features of Huawei Mobile Partner that are normally disabled in the “stock” build:

  • Sending USSD messages through the Huawei modem - check balance, refill, manage account, etc
  • Preset USSD messages - press a button to check your balance.
  • Making and receiving calls through the Huawei modem (if modem supports it) - sometimes useful in an emergency situation; definitely useful for voice-guided carrier menus.
  • Retinisation - Mobile Partner will look smoother on high-resolution Apple Retina displays.

They are disabled because you’re expected to use the “branded” driver, provided for your specific modem by your carrier. If the carrier doesn’t bother, you are out of luck.
